7 Home Details We’re Noticing This Month

Decorating your home is all about creating a space that reflects your unique style. But it’s also about adding those little touches that make your home more than just a place to live – it becomes a reflection of who you are.

Whether it’s finding the perfect piece of art to hang over the sofa, or choosing the right drawer pulls for the kitchen cabinets, there are many small details that can make a big difference in your home.

Interior style is more than just investing in quality furniture and major design elements. Oftentimes, it’s the small details that make a space what it is collectively. A great example of small details making a space are boutique hotels. Many boutique hotels are known for the carefully curated details that make them stand out from traditional chain hotels. You can achieve this same look in your own home by paying attention to the smaller details.

And as I do touch on small space decorating a lot on this blog, it’s important to note that many times it’s the small home details that really pull a space together. Small changes and small efforts you put into your interior design and home decor can truly lead to big impactful changes to your space. So don’t knock the small things!

Here are some of my favorites for this month:

#1 Decorative Door Stoppers

Add a unique and decorative touch to any room with door stoppers. Whether you go for classic or contemporary styles, these pieces can be a great way to add personality to the entrance of your home.

This might seem pretty random as far as home accessories and home details go, however, I think these small decorative accessories are wonderful opportunities to inject a bit of personality, fun and style in any room.

Antiqued Claw Doorstop- Anthropologie

This handmade cast aluminum door stops comes in a whimsical animal shape design. The antique finish gives them an added layer of charm that will add character and personality to your space.

#2 Patterned Home Textiles

Sometimes all it takes to give your home a fresh look is the addition of some simple new textiles. Pillows, throws, rugs, blankets – these little pieces can instantly add color and texture to your space. Plus, they’re much easier (and cheaper) to switch out than bigger furniture pieces.

I’ve been noticing a lot of geometric and ethnic patterns in the textiles I’ve been seeing lately. And I think they are a great way to add some visual interest to any room. Checkered patterns are also a great way to add some retro vibes to your space. They’re also very much in trend right now.

Checkerboard Woven Shag Rag Rug -Urban Outfitters

This beautiful rag rug with a checkerboard pattern is perfect for adding a touch of cozy vibes to any room. The woven shag material is incredibly soft and comfortable. And the neutral colors make it easy to match with any home decor style.

#3 Aged Cabinet Pulls and Handles

Again, it’s the small details that really make a difference in your home – and that includes hardware! Finding unique cabinet pulls, knobs or handles for doors, drawers or cabinets is a sport. It’s also an easy way to give your furniture or cabinetry a new look. And these pieces don’t have to be expensive either. You can often find them at a variety of prices depending on the style you’re looking for.

Again these are one of those things that are totally not necessary. However, they are affordable and easy to switch out when you want a fresh look in your home.

Antique Brass Cabinet Hardware -Amazon

I’m particularly into antique brass hardware as of late too. I think with its warm tones, it adds a touch of sophistication to your cabinetry. Plus these antique style brass pulls from Amazon come in a great variety of classical and classic shapes. Making them perfect for adding some subtle style to any room.

#4 Rounded Asymmetric Shaped Bowls

I feel like rounded asymmetric shape almost adds an air of sophistication to any type of setting. These bowls have the potential to be a conversation piece in any home. Not to mention, they look great with a variety of different decorative pieces.

I wrote a post once about the growing trends towards curved designs and organic shapes. They’re not typically the traditional forms in many interiors. However, certain interior design styles like Japandi embrace the use of these organic shaped pieces as they draw inspiration from nature. Even today, many Modern and Contemporary interior designs proudly display a multitude of curved shapes.

Many different brands are now not only creating decorative objects in these shapes, but they are also creating functional pieces like these bowls which I am obsessed with.

Small Metal Dish – H&M Home

This small metal dish is perfect for displaying jewelry, keys or even a few decorative pieces. The simple yet stylish design has quickly become one of my favorite items in my home. Not to mention I’ve been obsessed with silver and chrome finishes for a minute now and this is the perfect item to decorate any entryway table or vanity.

#5 Imperfect Handmade Stoneware

I’m a sucker for handmade vessels or at least pieces that look handmade, like these stoneware pieces. They are perfect for adding that artisanal touch to any room in your home. Whether you use them to store things or just as decorative items to display, I love how the contrast of textures and shapes add so much character to the space.

Again something else that has carried into the new year has been that desire for craftsmanship, taking time to think about the materials used and how each piece was crafted. Which brings me back to my love for these handmade stoneware pieces which you can find in many home decor shops online and in store.

Something about the rawness and simplicity of stoneware home decor pieces really speaks to me. I am especially drawn to pieces with subtle, natural imperfections that make them more authentic and charming.

Modern Small Stoneware Pitcher or Vase, Putty Brown – Amazon

This gorgeous small stoneware pitcher or vase by Amazon is a great addition to any room. It has a modern shape and comes in a subtle yet stylish putty brown color that would make it the perfect accent piece for any home decor style. The textured finish of the stoneware material adds an interesting look and feel to this piece, which is great for adding a unique style to any room.

#6 Colorful Drinkware Collections

I know I am not the only one collecting drinkware, I just can’t get enough! Whether it’s for your morning coffee, afternoon tea or evening cocktails, a beautiful set of drinkware can make the experience of drinking so much more enjoyable.

There are now so many different styles to choose from, ranging from minimalistic to statement pieces with intricate detailing. I’ve been loving how brands like Burke Decor and Anthropologie are creating collections that mix and match different colors.

I am especially in love with coffee mugs and saucer sets that come with a matching spoon. Not only do they look beautiful on display, but it also adds that extra special touch to your hot drink moments.

Ramona Coupe Glasses – Anthropologie

These Ramona Coupe Glasses from Anthropologie are a great example of timeless design. The gold rims add an extra touch of glamour to any dinner table, and the coupe shape makes them perfect for serving cocktails. Playfully colorful this set is sure to be appreciated by all your guests and will definitely bring some pizzazz to the table.

#7 Sleek Serving Trays

Not exactly home decor or home accessories, but still an item for the home that I think can definitely elevate your space. Serving trays are great for adding a sense of organization, plus they can also add some character to your dining or coffee table. I love how versatile they are – from using them as part of your table setting or for storing small items around the house.

These days you’ll find many variations with different shapes, sizes and materials and even decorative prints, like the one pictured above. I especially am loving the more minimalist ones right now and love how these trays look both when they are filled with food or drinks as well as empty; they just have so much potential to be a feature piece on any table.

Whether you use them while entertaining guests or just want to add a touch of class to your everyday decor, these pieces are definitely worth having.

TeamFar Stainless Steel – Amazon

You know I’m obsessed with chrome and silvers right now, well this steel tray is super sleek and perfect for serving and perfect for any coffee table. To me something like this may seem ordinary, but can totally elevate the look of your space and just add that extra bit of luxury to the mix.
